Old Nazareth and New Nazareth

Epoxy flooring in Nazareth means two very different kinds of floor. Ethnically German Moravian immigrants founded Nazareth in 1740, and the Nazareth Historic District was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1988. Around that core, farmland is being turned into suburban housing, much of it for commuters. Growth in the late 20th century came from people moving in from New Jersey and New York. So we coat century-old basements and brand-new garages in the same town.

In the historic borough

Nazareth Hall dates to 1754, and the Rose Inn to 1752. Homes built over the following centuries fill the borough's 1.7 square miles. Basement and garage floors in older houses here often have:

  • Thin or uneven concrete poured over older floors.
  • Paint and sealer layers from past owners.
  • Hairline cracks and settled corners.
  • Damp areas where there is no vapor barrier.

We grind back to sound concrete, fill and level, and test for moisture before choosing a system. Basement floor epoxy with a moisture-tolerant primer and concrete crack and floor repair are the usual fit.

In the new subdivisions

The homes rising on old farm fields have larger attached garages with fresh, smooth slabs. These floors are in good shape, but they are too smooth for a coating to grip and often carry a curing sealer. We grind them before coating. Commuter households put a lot of miles on their cars, so garage floor coating with a full flake broadcast, or a polyaspartic floor coating that returns the garage to service quickly, makes sense here.

Limestone, hills and winter

Nazareth sits on a limestone outcropping in hilly terrain. January averages about 28.1°F, so garage slabs freeze and thaw all winter while cars track in brine from Routes 191 and 248. Limestone ground can also move, so a crack that keeps widening deserves a closer look before we coat over it. We will tell you if we see signs of that.

How we price it

What a floor costs depends on its size, its condition and the system you pick. An older basement may need more grinding and repair, while a new garage needs less repair but the same careful prep. We measure and test first, then give you a written quote that lists the prep, repairs and each coat. That makes it easy to compare with other bids.

Shop floors and hobby spaces

Nazareth has a long tradition of craft work, and a garage or basement often doubles as a workshop, gym or hobby room. These spaces need a floor that handles dropped tools, rolling carts and the odd spill of finish or oil. A thicker flake build with a chemical-resistant topcoat holds up well. If you plan to bolt down equipment later, tell us so we can plan the work around it.

Home of a famous workshop

C. F. Martin & Company moved its guitar making to Nazareth in 1839 and keeps its headquarters and main factory here. The town has a long history of skilled shop work. If you have a home workshop, hobby room or small commercial space, ask about commercial floor epoxy or a thicker flake build that stands up to tools and spills.

Nazareth Questions

We just bought a new home outside Nazareth. Should we coat the garage now?

Many owners do it early, before oil and salt stain the slab. New concrete should be fully cured first, which usually takes about a month after the pour. We grind the surface either way so the coating bonds.

Can you coat a basement in a home in the historic district?

Yes, after a moisture test and any repairs. Interior floor work is separate from exterior changes. If your project also changes the outside of the house, check with the borough about that part.

What finish hides dust and tire marks best?

A full flake broadcast in a mixed color. It hides dust, grit and tire marks between cleanings better than a solid color or a clear coat.
